What to expect

At the base of a scenic valley, Arima Onsen, Japan's most famous hot spring town, is nestled deep in the north of the Rokko Mountain range behind Kobe City. It is the oldest onsen (hot spring) town in Japan, founded 1,300 years ago. Historically renowned as a timeless spa resort, it has been frequented by emperors, court nobles, samurai, and other notable figures. The town’s classic Japanese architecture and its numerous historical temples, shrines, and houses have been well preserved, making it an excellent place to stroll through some of Japan's oldest streets and enjoy ancient hot springs at the renowned Taikou-no-yu spa. With access from Kansai International Airport and Kyoto within two hours, Arima Onsen is a great destination for a day trip with convenient access to nearby cities
